HBO premiered the latest, full trailer for their forthcoming Perry Mason reboot.
The new original series Perry Mason, starring Emmy winner Matthew Rhys, premieres very soon. Based on characters created by Erle Stanley Gardner, this drama series follows the origins of American Fiction’s most legendary criminal defense lawyer, Perry Mason. When the case of the decade breaks down his door, Mason’s relentless pursuit of the truth reveals a fractured city and just maybe, a pathway to redemption for himself.
I saw Captain America: Civil War opening night and despite popular opinion, I was a bit disappointed.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s leaps and bounds better than the majority of other Marvel Cinematic Universe films, but I think the hype got to me and I left a little underwhelmed. So, if you loved it (and you probably did), don’t yell at me, I loved it too, my disappointment couldn’t outweigh my enjoyment. But I do have a few things I’d like to address…
Remember how we were going to get the Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer during the October 28th Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode? Well someone decided to crash the party, and if you believe Marvel, it was Hydra.
It seems that Robert Downey Jr. just can’t get enough of Marvel.
According to various reports, while there may not be an Iron Man 4, Robert Downey Jr. has signed on for a major role in the as of now untitled third installment in the Captain America franchise, and it could have some huge implications for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
RDJ has been making the rounds recently for his film The Judge, and naturally all anyone wants to talk about is his future as Iron Man. Originally, he was contracted for only one more Marvel movie, Avengers 3. However, it appears that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has major plans for Phase 3, which includes Captain America 3, Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Thor 3 and of course, the third Avengers. Feige may just be gearing up for Marvel’s biggest storyline of the last decade.
The thought is that this casting will lead to the Civil War series that ran in the comics in 2006 and 2007. That would put Captain America and Iron Man on opposite sides of the superhero registration act, dividing the former teammates and friends, and pitting half the Marvel Universe against each other, Cap opposing the act and Iron Man backing it. This could also help explain some of the recent rumors about Sony and Marvel working together, and Spider-Man showing up in the MCU. Afterall, he did play a big part during Civil War.
So, while the deal has yet to be signed, this is obviously the major announcement that RDJ has been teasing for the last few weeks. Granted, we’ve seen stuff fall through like Joaquin Phoenix as Doctor Strange or Edgar Wright leaving Ant-Man, but I have a feeling that this one is going to get done. Especially considering that Iron Man 3 grossed more than a billion dollars, so while they’ll back up the Brinks truck for RDJ one more time, it will all be worth it.
ABC is set to announce their fall schedule on May 14th so we figured it was about time to round up all the news we could find on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and put it in one handy dandy place.
First, let’s look at confirmed cast members. Of course we all know about Carl Gregg and his Agent Coulson returning from the dead (or was he ever dead?) but there have been quite a few other cast members added, not the least of which is Angel alum and most recently, Arrow assassin, J. August Richards. It hasn’t yet been announced who Richards will play, but I think we can all agree, it doesn’t really matter because he is that good. Maybe it’ll just be the return of Charles Gunn…
In addition to the three cast members we’ve already discussed here, those being Ming-Na Wen, Iain De Caestecker, and Elizabeth Henstridge, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. also includes Chloe Bennett from Nashville and Brett Dalton. Bennett is Skye and Dalton is the up and coming Agent Grant.
While it is nice to hear about these new characters and who will be playing them, we all are asking the same thing… what about Nick Fury and Maria Hill? Well as for Nick Fury, Samuel L. Jackson was asked about it during an interview with MTV and here’s what he had to say.
So Nick Fury as S.H.I.E.L.D.’s version of Charlie? I could live with that. Of course it would be even better if Jackson were to make cameos occasionally, but that might be asking a bit much. As for Maria Hill? Well Joss Whendon told TV Line that we shouldn’t “expect” her because obviously Smulders has a busy schedule with not only How I Met Your Mother, but also various other projects, but that she could make an appearance. In my dream world, Smulders would wrap up HIMYM and immediately take off her Robin Sparkles costume and put on her S.H.I.E.L.D. uniform. Throw in a stop at SNL (how has this not happened yet?) and, well that would just be great.
Of course everyone is looking for more news and insight to the show and who better to go to than Agent Coulson himself, Clark Gregg. Screenrant caught up with Gregg at the Tribeca Film Festival.
It’s always nice to see when an actor has such a fondness for the character they play and Gregg certainly does for Coulson.
So that gets us all caught up and ready for the upfront next Tuesday where it’s pretty much a sure thing that Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be announced. Could ABC finally making a run at beating CBS? They certainly have that potential so we’ll have to wait and see.
What we’ll also have to wait and see? If Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark/Iron Man makes an appearance on the small screen. When asked by EW about it he said, “You know what? There’s no telling. I am open to everything.” which doesn’t mean no. That’s pretty much all fans need to get their hopes up so here’s to Iron Man on S.H.I.E.L.D.!

Aaron:3) I think the question was, is the movie building off of the avengers, or iron man 2? There are more mentions of the avengers by far so marvel is definitely building to that. – 2:38 am
Aaron:4) of course with everyone reprising their roles, the acting was on point. That’s about as surprising as the boob count being 0. – 2:40 am
Aaron:5) honestly, id give it a 3.5 out of 5. Lower than I hoped, but I’m not saying it’s garbage or a terrible ending to the trilogy. Still had the action, still had the explosive ending, still had the comedic effect of Stark’s ego and one liners. But in an effort to not spoil it, mostly of all it went too much of a feel good and got predictable. And not in a “i know the iron man story line like the back of my hand” kind of way. – 2:46 am
