Richard Linklater’s Last Flag Flying is a spiritual sequel (adaptations of novels by Darryl Ponicsan) to Hal Ashby’s The Last Detail, starring Steve Carell, Bryan Cranston, and Laurence Fishburne. The film will have its premiere at the New York Film Festival where it will open both on Amazon Video and theaters this November. We have the first trailer below
Cinema Blend recently posted up the latest trailer for the new magician comedy The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. Now to my knowledge there is a lack of magician based comedies at the moment. In fact the only one that comes to mind is the UK movie Magicians starring UK TV funny men Mitchell and Webb. Though I enjoyed it let’s just say it did not set the cinematic world on fire. So I was interested to see how this comedy would fare. Here is the trailer so you can decide for yourselves what you think, but before that read this synopsis also from Cinema Blend to give you a better idea of what this flick is all about.
[box_light]Superstar magicians Burt Wonderstone (Steve Carell) and Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi) have ruled the Las Vegas strip for years, raking in millions with illusions as big as Burt’s growing ego. But lately the duo’s greatest deception is their public friendship, while secretly they’ve grown to loathe each other. Facing cutthroat competition from guerilla street magician Steve Gray (Jim Carrey), whose cult following surges with each outrageous stunt, even their show looks stale. But there’s still a chance Burt and Anton can save the act—both onstage and off—if Burt can get back in touch with what made him love magic in the first place. [/box_light]
The magic world is ready for a good parody and this film looks like it is on the right lines. I love the old versus new theme that is prevalent here. Steve Carell is superbly cast as the out-of-place magician (and he looks hilarious) and it’s great to see Steve Buscemi back in comedy again as his partner. I loved the David Blaine joke they popped into this movie and I am hoping to see a lot more of these kinds of gags throughout this film.
Carell is great at playing these underdog characters and this role seems to fit him like a glove. I also like the fact he seems a little cocky in this movie and has more of an edge than the normal misfits he plays. The film has such an amazing cast with Jim Carrey portraying of a new breed magician (a lot of Chris Angel influence is seen here). But it is not just these fine actors. We also get to see Olivia Wilde, James Gandolfini, Brad Garrett, Jay Mohr, Alan Arkin and Gillian Jacobs!
“Oh my sweet Brick” is just one of the many things we could be hearing in Anchorman 2, now that resident idiot Brick Tamland has his own love interest in the form of delightful Kristen Wiig.
Here is a quote from The Wrap article regarding her entry into the KVWN team.

Kristen Wiig is being eyed for a role in “Anchorman: The Legend Continues” for Paramount Pictures, a person familiar with the negotiations has told TheWrap.
Wiig would play opposite Steve Carell, as a love interest in the sequel. The script is still being written, and no cast beyond the principals has been set.
The film is a sequel to the 2004 hit, “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” and is due to be released in October 2013.

Kristen has hit it big recently with the excellent Bridesmaids (though she has always had great presence and shown amazing comedic talent in near every role she’s acted in) and this just feels like a great fit for her. Steve Carell should have a fun time bouncing off Kristen and for the story itself it is a bonus. How will Kristen’s courtship of Brick go? Will she be the lady he eventually marries and has numerous children with? Will Ron be able to cope with loosing his Brick a second time? We have plenty of time to find out, but here is hoping that brick leaves his grenade outside the bedroom and remembers that candles are for romantic dinners and not for the dinner itself.
Now I don’t like to talk about depressing things, but something has been bothering me for some time. I feel it is time to talk about it, right here, right now. It is something we all know about, but are not quite sure when it raised its ugly head. It is something that invades our everyday life. It is the horror of Photoshop, the tool to make stars look even prettier.
After literally almost 10 years of waiting, and an almost monthly debacle between Ferrell/McKay and studios, Anchorman 2 has released its first teaser trailer. With a simple set-up and hilarious banter between the Channel 4 News Team, Anchorman 2 has already solidified its status as one of the funniest films of 2013. In this teaser, our favorite group of the bumbling idiots that give San Diego its news basically just talk about how awesome it’s going to be once Anchorman 2 comes out.
