SDCC 2013: Preparing for the Marvel Studios Panel, & Catching Up on the MCU

I am a Marvel fan. Time to be real, get a little personal, Marvel is my slow jam. So over the last few years I have been known to get crazy excited for the Marvel Studios panel in Hall H. There has been an impressive display every year since the start of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, leading up to the huge unveiling last year of Marvel’s Phase Two. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a lover of all comics, and I’m excited for the potential of a DC Cinematic Universe, but this year it’s Marvel.

This year we can expect more from Phase Two, including some probable first looks at the next slate of films. Probably some casting news and more revelations regarding Phase Three, which so far includes Ant-Man and Doctor Strange, plus 3 mystery movies we previously discussed here.

John C. Reilly Cast as Rhomann Dey in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’… We Think…

We already reported on the rumors of John C. Reilly’s involvement with James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which was mainly connected with the character of Rhomann Dey. In the comics Dey was the Nova Corps member who selected the first Earth born Nova (Richard Rider), but his role in the movie was said to be a human who acted as a liaison between S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Guardians. This was of course just a rumor, and recent casting news has raised some interesting questions.

Last time we discussed James Gunn’s GotG we learned that Glenn Close would be playing a leading member of the Nova Corps along with a rumor that John C. Reilly was up for a role as well. Today we have another piece of news that set some tongues wagging.

News on James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy is in high demand these days, and with much of the team cast already, every new bit keeps adding to the increasingly more interesting part of Marvel’s Phase 3. The most recent casting announcement also revealed a new character who may or may not be a villain in the 2014 film, but we’ll get to that part soon.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Casts Drax the Destroyer!

We sure didn’t have to wait very long to hear of the next cast member announced for James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, following the casting of Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/ Star-Lord. The second member of the team has been announced, with Dave Bautista joining the film as Drax the Destroyer!
