Gemini Man: First Trailer Has Will Smith Vs. Will Smith In Ang Lee’s Latest Sci-Fi Actioner

Paramount has unveiled the first official trailer for Gemini Man from acclaimed director Ang Lee. Will Smith stars as Henry Brogen, an aging assassin seeking to exit his career, who finds himself going against a younger clone of himself who can predict his every move.

Suicide Squad; New Trailer and Poster Amp Up Excitement

Last night Warner Bros. dropped the newest trailer for the upcoming Suicide Squad movie, beautifully set to Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, which is now stuck in my head. This trailer, which has me quite a bit more excited than the first one did, shows us little more of the team, though the exact story is still a mystery.

With those words, the first trailer to the Independence Day sequel had geeks hyperventilating in barely-suppressed “I told you so!” gasps. Fat fingers ached in trying to keep up sharing the video fast enough on social media. As of this writing, Independence Day: Resurgence has garnered over 16M views and 72k+ in likes on YouTube.

Suicide Squad: New Images and Details From the Cast!

While everyone is waiting patiently for DC and Warner Bros’ epic second entry to the DC Extended Universe – Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – we find ourselves gravitating more towards the follow up to that film.

David Ayers’ Suicide Squad has been intriguing fans and non-fans alike since it was first announced. As each new cast member and comic character was announced, we started to get an idea of the film, which is set to be a unique superhero experience. Eventually we got our first look at some behind the scenes images and the Comic-Con trailer. This trailer offered our first look at Jared Leto as Joker, and we haven’t really been talking about anything other than that since.

Over the last week we’ve seen Empire Magazine drop a few brand new covers, including yet another official image of Leto in full costume as the Joker. Empire has released four covers featuring four main characters from the film, including a collectors edition of the Joker cover.

After the Comic-Con footage for Warner Bros’ Suicide Squad leaked online, director David Ayer tweeted out that he planned to make it right ,and today we now have that trailer online, in magnificent HD.

Movie Trailers Roundup: Tomorrowland, American Sniper, Focus & Interstellar

There has been a lot of new movie trailers and teasers out in the last week, and we here at Grizzly Bomb want to make sure you’re all caught up with the latest ones. We got a couple of teasers for Brad Bird’s latest anticipated film Tomorrowland, Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper, as well as the latest trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar and Will Smith’s new movie Focus. So let’s all sit back, fire up YouTube and get to watching some good videos.

First off is Tomorrowland starring George Clooney and Britt Robertson and c0-written by Damon Lindelof (Lost) and Brad Bird. Not only has the movie been shrouded in secrecy since the genesis of the project, we’ve been getting teased here and there about its existence and connection to the Magic Kingdom attraction in Disney World. Well we finally got some answers with some publicity stills and a brand new teaser. Okay, we really didn’t get any answers at all, but I’m very intrigued. Having Brad Bird directing helps too seeing as he made a stellar transition from The Iron Giant and The Incredibles to live-action with Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.

So Britt Robertson discovers a pin that can transport her to another world and she sees on the horizon a futuristic city awaiting her. We also get a George Clooney voiceover and that’s pretty much it. Obviously the Disney part of it will factor in and that’s enough to sell me on it. The movie isn’t due until May 22nd, 2015 so I’m sure we’ll see more as times goes onward.

Next, we have Will Smith’s Focus. I love me some Will Smith, but the dude needs a good movie/hit. Focus could be that movie for him as he plays a con artist that recruits “intern” Margot Robbie (like you could forget her after The Wolf of Wall Street) and things obviously get complicated. The movie is written and directed by the duo of Glenn Ficara and John Requa (Bad Santa) so it’s got my attention.

The opening shot really sets the tone and piques your interest. Now, hopefully it won’t be some run of the mill con-man, con-woman, romantic tension filled thriller that seems way too predictable. I guess we’ll find out on February 27th, 2015 if Will Smith can recover some goodwill following After Earth.

Now we get to the movies that will see release this year and we’ll start with Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper. Based on the autobiography by Chris Kyle, this adaptation originally had Steven Spielberg set to direct before he bowed out for Clint Eastwood, and judging from the trailer below, we’re definitely going to be in good hands.

Bradley Cooper plays Chris Kyle and Sienna Miller plays his wife. Obviously from the movie, the tension is palpable as he has to make decisions to take out people, specifically women and children if they pose as a threat. Of course, these snap decisions have to be made on the spot, so just hearing the heartbeat as he decides whether or not he pulls the trigger is edge of your seat stuff. The movie will open on Christmas Day in selected cities for the award season push then go nationwide on January 16, 2014.

Last and most likely not least, is Christopher Nolan’s next big project, Interstellar. We’ve seen a few trailers already for the movie with the all-star cast that boasts the likes of Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain to name a few. We haven’t really gotten too many answers as to what the film is about, and this trailer seems to have peeled back a little bit of the curtain. The marketing of this reminds me of Inception, in that no one really knew what the movie was about until it finally came out. Hopefully this movie will be as impressive as Inception and the following trailer.

We know that the planet is dying and that McConaughey’s pilot is one of many tasked with trying to find hope for the remainder of the Earth’s population as they seem to slowly get engulfed by the dust bowl it has become. They have to go out of the galaxy to find a solution to Earth’s problem as he wrestles with the possibility of never seeing his children again. It seems to be a heavyweight of a movie and I’m sure will definitely be something to remember. The movie will get an early IMAX release for November 5th, 2014 before it rolls out nationwide on November 7th, 2014 for the rest of the masses.

The ID4 Sequel Won’t Get Jiggy Wit It, Goldblum and Pullman Celebrate More Screen Time

Since we are on the eve of the Roland Emmerich release of White House Down/Olympus Has Fallen 2.0/Die Hard 5.2/White House Explodes Yet Again, however you want to call the movie, it’s ample time to address the ID4 sequel. The director has been getting questions about the sequel and who’s coming back, who’s not, and the major news has come out: Will Smith will NOT be return to defend planet Earf.

According to Emmerich via the Hollywood Reporter, Will Smith won’t be coming back for the sequels ID Forever Part I and Part II (get it, ID FORever, that’s so 2 Fast 2 Furious) and not because After Earth crapped its pants commercially and critically (seriously, why do a movie where Will Smith has to dial his charisma from a 10 back down to a 2), but because he’s too big. That’s right, he priced himself out of the action movie franchise that made him. According to Emmerich, the story concentrates on the younger generation that must learn to defend themselves from the alien reinforcements that come back to conquer Earth. Of course, that meant a concentration of younger (read: cheaper) stars for the movie so having Will Smith for a smaller role apparently meant the money wasn’t worth it to overshadow whoever else decided to come aboard. Which is understandable, and Will Smith wouldn’t agree to a smaller role most likely, seeing as he’s pretty picky about his roles, as evidenced with the Django Unchained casting of Jamie Foxx. Regardless, Emmerich decided that he’s too much of a marquee name and it would be “too much”. Yes, because Roland Emmerich movies are usually defined by their subtlety.

However, who will be coming back is your favorite bicycle-riding, computer tech guy know-it-all, Jeff Goldblum and terrific speech giver and fighter pilot President Bill Pullman. According to Vulture, these dudes will be making a return because they need to cover rent. That and I imagine if that if my President was one of the fighter pilots that brought down one of the ships, he deserves a mention in the next few movies. That and I’m sure Goldblum will have some sort of speech about the environment and nuclear deterrents that will provide a subtle message about mistreating planet Earth. Or they just bridge the 20 year gap between the sequels. Who knows. It would be interesting if they bring back Mae Whitman (her?) to reprise her role as the President’s daughter. Heck, just bring back Adam Baldwin and I’d be perfectly content with that.

Regardless, this sequel is coming and I’m sure we’ll see more fun stuff get destroyed. Although I guess since the aliens destroyed everything the first time around, we’ll just have to wait and see on July 3rd, 2015 if they get to destroy the recreations of major landmarks. Just because it’s starting to get really redundant in seeing the White House destroyed over and over again… Bonus though, courtesy of YouTube user CinemaSins, you can experience ID4 all over again…now with glaring errors and commentary!

Trailer Roundup: Pain & Gain, Gatsby, Bateman, and Will Smith…

The newest film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel of the same title stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby.  Nick Carraway portrayed by Toby Maguire becomes infatuated with the mystery and intrigue of Gatsby’s empire.  As more and more is revealed to him, Carraway finds the inner workings of Gatsby’s lavish lifestyle are pulling apart at the seams.

Joining DiCaprio and Maguire are the likes of Isla Fisher, Jason Clarke, Joel Edgerton and Carey Mulligan.  This will be the second time Baz Luhrmann will direct DiCaprio since Romeo + Juliet.  Initially due out as a Christmas day release, this has been pushed back to a May 2013 release date so as not to compete with Django Unchained also starring DiCaprio.

This film captures all the lunacy of Monsieur Oscar.  This journey of what takes place during the night spans the distance of captain of industry, begger, assassin, monster, and family man.

Though Leos Carax initially wrote Kay M. for Kate Moss, the role was ultimately filled by Eva Mendes.  The singing role of Eva Grace was rewritten for Kylie Minogue when she was cast.

I have never had my identity stolen.  However, if I had, I would hope the antics that would ensue would be as comical as what Identity Thief has lined up.  Jason Bateman is Sandy, a regular old law-abiding citizen who finds out his identity has been stolen.  His intention is to catch the thief to clear his good name.

I haven’t personally seen Mike & Molly, but Melissa McCarthy’s comedic presence in film is becoming fully apparent.  With a break out comedic performance in Bridesmaids, she is also in This Is 40, and rumored to be in The Hangover Part III.

Though the comedic pauses initially seem a bit out of place, this could resemble Bad Boys II.  I don’t know about you, but I love me some Bad Boys II.

Jumanji is Getting the Reboot Treatment

In some of the most unexpected and surprising news of the week, Columbia has announced that they’re rebooting the classic kids’ movie, Jumanji. In an attempt to “appeal to a younger audience”, the studio is bringing the game of Jumanji back to the big screen with a modern twist. Just when I thought things couldn’t get any stupider, I was pleasantly surprised.

See, this doesn’t work for many, many reasons. The first one being that a plot involving two kids playing a glorified Ouija Board with a mysterious man is probably not something we need to revisit in theaters. Oh, wait just a goddamn minute. We did see a Jumanji reboot except it was called Zathura and it had a lot of Kristen Stewart doing what Kristen Stewart does. And as much as we’d like to admit that maybe technologically advanced visual effects will improve cult classic remakes, let’s take a look at the quality of such films as the Conan the Barbarian and Dark Shadows. Yeah….no.

21 Jump Street Sequel in the Works

Anyone who saw 21 Jump Street this year was more likely than not pleasantly surprised by how well-made it was. From the extremely clever script by Michael Bacall to the immense chemistry between Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, who showed a new found strength as an actor, 21 Jump Street was one of the most pleasant surprises of the year other than the other Channing Tatum vehicles of 2012, The Vow and Magic Mike. Don’t hate on me for liking The Vow. You liked it too. Don’t lie.

Anyway, word has hit the streets (or actually, the “twitter-sphere” as Captain Dickson says in the film) that a sequel to the film is in the works. The news came from C-Tates himself after a fan asked him if he thought that a sequel to 21 Jump Street would be a good idea.

Personally, I’m conflicted. 21 Jump Street was such a great comedy and it should/would/could work beautifully as a standalone stroke of genius. But of course, in the consumerist Hollywood that we live in, that’s just not an option. The ending of the first film even left the possibility of a sequel open, but I always hoped it could be left to the viewers’ imaginations. With that being said, if done as well as the first film, I’d be totally open to a sequel. The first film did a great job at avoiding tired cliches and actually just…farting in the general direction of conventional storytelling.

Bringing back the original writer, Michael Bacall, and directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, would be the best idea, because no one else would be able to handle the characters like they did. Also, the entire cast would have to return or else it just wouldn’t work. And for the love of all that is holy, please make sure that Jonah Hill and Brie Larson stay together as a couple throughout the sequel. Please.

Men in Black IV Approaching as a Reality

Will Smith, the guy who says he “doesn’t want to be the sequel guy”, is in talks to star in Hancock II, Bad Boys III, and now Men in Black IV. Seems legit. Columbia Pictures President Doug Belgrad says that he believes the Men in Black series is “an ongoing franchise” but, “We don’t have clarity yet on how it should be done.” Again, seems legit. If you ask me, I think this is code for: Will Smith is pushing 50 and he’s going to hand down the franchise to his son, Jaden Smith, like it was his Grandfather’s watch.

Personally, the Men in Black formula only truly worked for the first film which is, in every way possible, a perfect sci-fi comedy. Few films have been able to reach the level of the original Men in Black, but the two sequels just kind of ruin the legacy and if they keep making them it’s just going to bury the original even more. As for other Will/Jaden Smith projects, we’ve got After Earth coming up, a film written and directed by the infamous M. Night Shyamalan.

M. Night gets a bad reputation for making The Last Airbender, a film I refuse to watch. But I think almost everything else he does is really quite fascinating. I’m one of the few defenders of The Happening and Signs is one of my favorite films. He has a chance to make this a really interesting movie, but judging by the viral video, this may end up being Will Smith’s first truly abysmal film that reaches (or degrades itself) to the levels of Battlefield Earth.

Abe Lincoln no longer hunting Vampires

In the most unpredictable decision made so far this year (please note the sarcasm), the Spielberg-directed Lincoln, starring Daniel-Day Lewis as our 16th President, is set to release on November 9th, three days after Election Day as well as in the midst of awards season. Does this news surprise me? Not at all, am I still excited to see Daniel-Day Lewis in a movie? Always, but it’ll be difficult for an actor even of his skill to top Bill Oberst Jr.’s portrayal of Lincoln, something he’s been doing for years now on stage.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited about this movie, especially because the cast includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Adam Driver, Jackie Earle Haley, Tommy Lee Jones, John Hawkes, and James Spader, but Spielberg has lost his touch in recent years and period pieces have to be done to perfection to truly work. Due to this, I remain skeptical. I just hope it’s not another “Oh, look! Daniel-Day Lewis is in this and we’re releasing it during Oscar season so GIVE US A BEST PICTURE NOMINATION PLEASE!!!!” If you want a perfect example of that, watch Nine. Well, don’t watch it…but, yeah. Nine. That.
