It is hard to believe that not even two years ago, Netflix looked like it was heading towards a certain death. The Qwikster debacle and subsequent hemorrhage of subscribers was predicted to be the end of Netflix, and yet here they are today with multiple successful original series, a deal to revive the cult classic Arrested Development, a widely expanded library through various partnerships with big studios – including Disney – and now a deal to bring Fox’s New Girl to the streaming service.

New Girl – Series Premiere Review
This is not a show I had planned to review…or like…or even watch. But I did, and it was actually really funny. Initial previews for this show made it look like another CBS yuck-fest, but since it was being paired on FOX with Raising Hope (which I like) I thought I’d give it a chance. And I’m glad I did.
Zooey Deschanel and her ‘it factor’ successfully steer what could have otherwise been a train wreck. The premise is that she moves in with 3 bachelors and zany situations are sure to arise, but what made it different from your normal sitcom is how sincere it felt. They actually make you believe that Jess (Deschanel) is clueless and you feel for her when she gets stood up. And it’s even kind of touching when the guys come to her rescue.
Speaking of the guys, they drive the actual humor in the show. My favorite has to be Schmidt (Max Greenfield from Veronica Mars) as he is constantly relegated to sticking dollar bills in the ‘Douchebag Jar’ after almost everything he says.
His 2 best friends are Coach (Damon Wayans Jr. – Who actually sounds just like his Dad) and Nick (Jake M. Johnson). Coach is a personal trainer who can’t speak to women and is constantly delivering the punchline in each scene. Nick however, is the seemingly the most normal of the 3, but who is still reeling over his breakup with The Waitress Caroline (Mary Elizabeth Ellis from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia – Seen Here to your right) 6 months after the dumping.
The cast is rounded out by Jess’ beautiful best friend and model – Cece Meyers (Hannah Simone – Below) who informs the guys: “If you let anything happen to her – I’m gonna come here and crazy murder you.” Which I found to be pretty funny.
The actual episode story itself is pretty recycled, but it’s a testament to the cast that they were able to make it enjoyable and inject some life into it. I’d give it 4/5 Bears with room for improvement, but a lot of potential.
Fox Hands Out Pink Slips; Slater Cries on Bed of Roses
According to E!Online and several other media outlets, the end of the line is here for cult fave The Chicago Code. Fox has announced that the cop shop will not return in the fall along with dramas Lie to Me, Human Target and comedies Breaking In and Traffic Light.
None of the shows being canceled are surprising considering the ratings were never there to begin with. If we had to be surprised on a show, it might have been The Chicago Code, because it was a universally liked show and as a midseason replacement, Fox might give it another shot but alas, it was not meant to be. Personally, I never got into Lie to Me or Human Target.
With Breaking In, it looks to see Christian Slater continues in his failed conversion to television. Maybe that will open the door to Kuffs 2. Maybe a Hollow Man 3. I did like Traffic Light though but not necessarily enough to complain about it being canceled. Although it wouldn’t be as awesome as The Wizard 2.
As for the replacements for the fall lineup, Fox has announced a few including a Bones spinoff called The Finder, which was based off an episode that aired earlier this season. It stars Geoff Stults, the dude with the sailor vows in Wedding Crashers. He’s also from Detroit, so Kronner will probably watch it now because of loyalty to the D ,and his odd affection for Bones. The next J.J. Abrams drama – Alcatraz will also be on the fall slate, with comedies I Hate My Teenage Daughter starring Jaime Pressly…
and The New Girl with Zooey Deschanel.
That’s a lot of hipster going on the Fox fall slate. Personally, I’d like a television adaptation of Broken Arrow. We need to get Christian Slater some work! He can reunite with newly unemployed Chicago Code star Delroy Lindo!
Okay I’ll stop.

Grizzly Review: Your Highness (aka Natalie Portman Thong)
I went into the midnight showing of Your Highness with good expectations. Not that I would be seeing a great movie with an awesome storyline, or top-notch acting, but a movie that would have great comedy to make me laugh my ass off, effectively spoofing the fantasy genre. It definitely spoofed the genre very well, but the comedy aspect left plenty to be desired. And I will also be bombarding this article with Natalie Portman pictures so enjoy.
