“I’m just trying to make my city a better place.”
We are quickly approaching the premiere of Marvel’s Daredevil on Netflix, and the excitement levels are starting to ramp up for impeding binge watch on April 10. We saw the first full Daredevil trailer last month, and this morning, we were given a second. In this new one, Matt Murdock (the man without fear) and long time comic book rival Wilson Fisk (the Kingpin), are presented as two sides of the same coin. Two men with similar goals and opposing methods. Take a look…
So the focus here is that both Murdock and Fisk want to make Hell’s Kitchen a better place, they just have differing ideas on how to do so. The trailer starts with Kingpin (played by Vincent D’Onofrio) speaking to the fact that the city is a part of him, and he would “do anything to make it to make it a better place.” Then towards the end, we hear our hero (played by Charlie Cox) utter the line “I’m just trying to make my city a better place.” And in classic villain style, Kingpin tries to convince Murdock of how similar they really are. This is a view that isn’t shared by our protagonist.
In between all the foil setup, this trailer shows off the cast a little more than we’ve seen prior. Scott Glenn (Silence of the Lambs, Backdraft) is Daredevil’s trainer Stick. The character was previously seen in the 2005 movie Elektra, played then by Zod himself, Terrance Stamp.

Very little has been revealed about the past of the man known as Stick. He was blind, but developed the acuteness of his other senses to levels far beyond those experienced by most human beings. These heightened senses, including his so-called “proximity sense,” compensated for his inability to see.
We also heard from Rosario Dawson and Deborah Ann Woll, both of whom garnered plenty of attention upon their casting and are sure to play major roles going forward. While we still don’t know much about Dawson’s character, we know Woll will play Karen Page, one of Daredevil’s more prominent love interests from the books.
So, a month from today, plenty of avid comic readers and fans of Marvel Studios are going to sit down in front of their television sets and spend the day in Hell’s Kitchen. From what we’ve seen so far, it seems like that could be a good day, perhaps even good enough to make up for the Daredevil and Elektra movies…
