Arrested Development: Kristen Wiig, Tony Wonder, and the Workaholics

The most recent winner of Vulture’s Sitcom Smackdown (Reader Bracket) is Arrested Development edging out The Simpsons to be named the greatest sitcom of the last 30 years…by popular vote. That’s still something right? Possibly fueled by it’s impending return, AD seems to be as popular as ever, and for hits that reason we thought it was about time we got caught up on some of the latest news surrounding the shows resurrection. After all, in less than two months, we’ll be again enjoying probably one of the best comedies to grace television of all time. That’s right. I went there.

First off, let’s look at who is slated to return. Ben Stiller is showing up, hopefully to cause some havoc in Gob’s world as his magician rival Tony Wonder.

This comes on the heels of news that Andy Richter will be returning (either to play himself or one/all of his brothers), with Henry Winkler, Scott Baio, Mae Whitman and Jeff Garlin all reprising their respective roles as well.

Some big names joining the cast this season include Seth Rogen, Isla Fisher, Conan O’Brien, Terry Crews, and Mad Men‘s John Slattery. In addition is recent news via Bateman’s twitter that Workaholics stars Adam and Ders should be making an appearance too.

Biggest news though is probably Kristen Wiig as Young Lucille Bluth. That latter casting will probably be the one that garners the most attention so hopefully she can step up to the plate of the brilliant Jessica Walters.   Speaking of Jessica Walters, the next GIF should capture the reaction of the next casting news I bestow upon you – Gene Parmesan is coming back too. If anything, it just allows me to use this GIF.

Anyways  it still remains to be seen if Martin Short or Charlize Theron will make it back. Admittedly, it would be totally awesome if they did, but you gotta bet that Netflix and Hurwitz are keeping things close to the vest until the massive premiere of all 14 episodes on May 4th…well maybe May 4th. No one really knows as news came out that it would be the day, only to have the announcement rescinded quickly. So we’ll see, as it will probably the only season that will be aired on Netflix according to the CEO. Granted, everyone backtracked off of that so really there’s just a lot of misinformation, or at least, random speculation that has been running rampant throughout. Due to the success of House of Cards, one must think that perhaps a 5th season won’t be out of the question. Granted, they still have to launch the movie after this season so that would be the initial hope.

At this point I’m just going to throw some pictures in from the set as we eagerly await the next bit of news. Remember, less than two months my friends…
