The first season of Doom Patrol launched on the streaming platform, DC Universe. As the second season is now launching on HBO Max, the unlikely superhero team is looking to reach a larger audience.
Following the defeat of Mr. Nobody, the members of the Doom Patrol now find themselves mini-sized and stranded on Cliff’s toy race car track. Here they begin to deal with their feelings of betrayal by Niles Caulder a.k.a. the Chief, while confronting their own personal baggage. And as each member faces the challenge of growing beyond their own past traumatic experiences, they must come together to embrace and protect the newest member of the family: Dorothy Spinner, Niles’ daughter, whose powers remain a mysterious but real threat to bringing on the end of the world.

This first trailer for the second is quick to reintroduce the characters to potential newcomers. This misfit team of heroes includes Robotman (Brendan Fraser), Negative Man (Matt Bomer), Elasti-Woman (April Bowlby), Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero), and Cyborg (Joivan Wade). As well as their aforementioned Chief, played by Timothy Dalton.
The first season of Doom Patrol was well-received. Yours truly found it to be easily one of the better comic-book adaptations set on the small screen. The offbeat humor and inherent bizarre nature of the show made it an indispensable alternative to the oversaturated climate of superhero movies. The peculiarities of Doom Patrol is what made it a breath of fresh air. Now that it’s debuting its sophomore season on HBO Max, the will hopefully break the show out to an even larger audience, making it possible for a long run of seasons to come.
Glad to see that inherent weirdness is still on full display as the trailer showcases a miniaturized Robotman punching a rat and a billboard informing us that Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man is now a best-selling author. It’s also looking that, at least for a scene, that the crew will don a version of their original red & white suites from the comics.
The first three episodes of Doom Patrol Season 2 arrive on HBO Max Thursday, June 25, followed by a new weekly episode for the following six weeks.
