The Deadpool Movie: Featuring Gina Carano, T.J. Miller and Colossus?

With one quick tease from Ryan Reynolds, the news machine has started rolling on the upcoming Deadpool film, which is still over a year away. Reynolds shared a picture from the Deadpool camp showing us a little tease of the mask he will be wearing in Fox’s long-awaited solo film for the merc-with-a-mouth, a character Ryan Reynolds has been waiting to properly bring to the big screen for years.

Not too long after that first image was released, and following the collective squee as fans across the world gushed over the mask, our first casting announcement since Reynolds’ confirmation hit the web. Gina Carano (Fast and Furious 6, Haywire) will join the film as Angel Dust, a member of the Morlocks who is able to gain super strength due to bursts of adrenaline. The Morlocks are an underground group of mutants who consider themselves too mutated to hide or coexist with the general public above ground.

Shortly after Carano was announced, we also learned that the X-Man known as Colossus will feature in the film, bringing Deadpool effectively into Fox’s mutant cinematic world. We haven’t heard official confirmation yet, but it looks like Daniel Cudmore might reprise his role as the Russian powerhouse, who we previously saw in X2: X-Men United, X-Men: The Last Stand, and X-Men: Days of Future Past. How the character will fit into the film remains unknown, so whether he is merely a cameo character to connect the X-universe or a large part of the story remains to be seen.

Finally, we’ve heard confirmation that T.J. Miller (Silicon Valley) will be joining the cast in an undisclosed role. This is not unexpected, as we’ve heard his name rumored for the film before. As to what the undisclosed role could be, the intital rumor stated that Miller could possibly play Deadpool’s inner voice, which any fan of the comic knows plays a huge part in the narrative of Deadpool’s adventures. Expect much hilarious breaking of the fourth wall while Reynolds and Miller play off each other if this rumor turns out to be accurate.

So not too bad for our first crop of news out of the Deadpool camp, though not too much to start speculating on quite yet. What we should focus on is how amazing that mask looks, even if we haven’t really seen the full debut yet.

What do you think of the initial crop of news from Deadpool? Was the brief glimpse of the mask enough to get you excited? Interested to see Colossus on the big screen again?
