AMC is doing its best to keep the dead walking this Halloween season.The October 4th season finale of The Walking Dead spin-off Fear the Walking Dead didn’t leave fans in the cold for long, Season 6 of the original series returned last Sunday, October 11.
While Fear had a slow start, as was promised by show runners, by the end of the brief 6 episode season our dysfunctional new “family” woke up from their LaLaLand stuper and should be ready to face the walker apocalypse head on next season

The cast, of course, will be down by a few. Hard ass Dr. Bethany Exner (Sandrine Holt) ultimately couldn’t take the heat when barber (or is butcher more appropriate?) Daniel Salazar (Rubén Blades) let the fans run wild in the epic scene in which our new survivors finally understand the true scale of what has happened. Meanwhile, Momma Griselda Salazar (Patricia Reyes Spíndola), had a bad bout of regret before getting the best death a patient at ‘Our Lady of Shits About to Get Real Hospital’ could ask for.
Just as our gang make it clear of the city and have a moment to process what they have seen, resting in the ultimate bachelor pad by the sea, Liza Ortiz (Elizabeth Rodriguez) asks her ex-husbands new gal, and our brave leader, Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) to help her take her own life when she discovers she was bitten during their final escape.
Like Rick’s first steps out of his room in the hospital, the members of the new cast are coming awake in a world where there are no rules. Where survival is the only thing that matters.
Los Angeles may have been one of the best cities to choose from to really show this, and Victor Strand’s home and escape yacht create a wonderful juxtatopistion to the new reality, which includes euthanasia by brain destruction.
While Fear The Walking Dead is just finding its footing, The Walking Dead returns us to our regularly scheduled apocalypse.
Robert Kirkman, The Walking Dead creator, wasn’t joking around when he told New York Comic-Con attendees,
“This is going to be the most intense season of ‘The Walking Dead’ yet. The first few episodes hit the ground running, and there’ll be pretty big cliffhangers at the end of every episode.”
Using flash backs to catch us up to speed on what has been going on in Alexandria while we were BBQing the summer away, the first episode starts off with yet another horrifying mass of zombies, and these ones are a little too close to home.
Ethan Embry (Can’t Hardly Wait) joins the cast as Carter, a character we can feel we might have gotten to know if he didn’t get his face eaten by a freaking walker.
Embry, who is a fan of the show himself, has been auditioning for a while. He told Yahoo News,
I’ve been wanting to be on the show for a while. I auditioned for the pilot, for the role of Shane. I remember reading that pilot and being a big fan of 28 Days Later, and knowing that this show, if they got close to pulling off what was on paper, it was going to be something special, and they did. I didn’t know how close I got to it, but there was another [character] that’s on the show now that I auditioned for. I guess it was down to the wire on that one, too, so when the role of Carter came up, Greg and [showrunner] Scott [Gimple] thought of me and sent out the invitation. I was stoked — really happy.
Rick Grimes and his crew are large and in charge as per usual. Carol is still brilliantly playing Suzy homemaker, but Morgan sees right through her. Wonder if he likes cookies?
As we stand now the town of Alexandria, woefully unprepared when last we saw, has a hungry horde headed their way. Dude, turn off your car alarm!
It’s great to have our crew back in time for Halloween, the downside, of course, is having to wait a week between episodes.
