Chucky, Syfy and USA’s upcoming series is a continuation of the Child’s Play horror series from original creator Don Mancini. The trailer debuted as part of San Diego Comic-Con @ Home, and fans of the wisecracking killer doll got a look at the full trailer.
In Chucky, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos after a vintage ‘Good Guy’ doll turns up at a suburban yard sale. Soon, everyone must grapple with a series of horrifying murders that begin to expose the town’s deep hypocrisies and hidden secrets. Meanwhile, friends and foes from Chucky’s past creep back into his world and threaten to expose the truth behind his mysterious origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.

Franchise vets Brad Dourif, Jennifer Tilly, and Fiona Dourif are set to reprise their roles from the films, while the series brings in new leads Zackary Arthur, Teo Briones, Bjorgvin Arnarson, and Alyvia Alyn Lind. Joining them are Arrow‘s Talia al Ghul – Lexa Doig, and ’90s heartthrob Devon Sawa (Nikita).
The Comic-Con panel served as a catch-up on the characters and storylines from the previous movies, while the trailer reveals that the new series is set specifically during Halloween. We also get our first look at a young Charles Lee Ray (played by David Kohlsmith), with the series expanding upon the character’s origin story and, of course, plenty of gruesome kills and campy humor tied so fondly to the franchise. “For me, it’s just been wild that I started this when I was six years old, and I just turned 40, and I’m gonna be Andy again in my life,” Child’s Play star Alex Vincent said.
“People who grew up with [Chucky], there’s a lot in the show they are going to be very excited to uncover about these characters. They’ve been waiting for the really dark feel and some really gruesome, gory deaths, and this show is chock full of those. And for newer fans, it’s a little more developed in why he is the way he is. It’s really shown in a real creative way. Still as dark as ever, but we get to kind of see Chucky in a different light and what he gets out of interacting with people.”
Chucky is created and executive produced by franchise creator Don Mancini, who is also serving as the showrunner and director for the pilot episode. Executive producers are franchise producer and doll creator David Kirschner and Nick Antosca via his Eat the Cat production label.
