Legal Battle for Friday the 13th Film Rights Comes to an End

After years of legal dispute, Victor Miller, screenwriter on the original Friday the 13th film, has been awarded rights of authorship for his characters and story by the United States Court of Appeals For the Second Circuit. On the other side of the dispute, “HORROR INC., A MASSACHUSETTS CORPORATION, MANNY COMPANY, A CONNECTICUT LIMITED PARTNERSHIP” – aka Sean S. Fear Street Part 2: 1978 Trailer Brings The Friday The 13th Vibes This Summer!

Netflix has unveiled the trailer for their highly anticipated second chapter in their Fear Street horror trilogy, adapted from the R.L. Stine books of the same name.

Fear Street Part 1: 1994 told of a group of teens in the cursed town of Shadyside who took on a malevolent force that has plagued their home for decades. Part 2: 1978 now goes back in time to an earlier decade where the joys of summer camp turn into nightmares when a murderer stalks the grounds. The second film, though set in the late ’70s, actaully harkens back to the days of 1980s slasher films set at camps such as Friday the 13th and Sleepaway Camp, and judging by this trailer, those vibes are there in spades.

Mortal Kombat Creator Could Create Horror Icons Video Game

Horror movie characters like Freddy, Jason and the rest have managed to span numerous genres, not just the cinematic universes they were originally born into.

Jason Voorhees for example has his own video game currently in the works, plus old Spectrum and NES games from the 1980s, as well as a board game (called Last Friday) inspired by his murderous antics. And he is not alone.

Film Imitating Film? Nicholas Winding Refn Compares Alien To Planet of the Vampires

Is Alien a rip off of the Mario Bava flick Planet of Vampires?

They say that life imitates art, but what happens when art imitates art? Well, sometimes lawsuits, but most of the time we see great homages to movie scenes taken from classic (and not so classic) films. This often gives the scenes new life in someone else’s vision.

Countdown to Halloween: Straight To Video, The B-Movie Odyssey

Recently there has been a step back to the cinematic style of the 1980s, and with it the movies that use this style are bringing back a forgotten (by some, not by me) format, the VHS tape. Drive and Hobo with a Shotgun are two of the earliest versions I can think of that have encapsulated the spirit and aesthetics of the ’80s.

Hobo with a Shotgun in particular takes the gritty, grimy feel of the VHS phenomenon and brings it right back to the modern-day. Turbo Boy also follows in this vein, while V/H/S brought a more gritty view of the found footage genre. Wolf Cop may not have had the same color scheme as many of the films from the ’80s, but it had that sense of wackiness, fun and violence that I would expect to see from VHS of that time.
